Body treatments

The difference between beauty and professional remedial massage and aromatherapy is that...

...no beauty therapist is qualified to treat as a stand-alone massage therapist or aromatherapist; they are not allowed to call themselves a massage therapist or aromatherapist. The level of anatomy, physiology and pathology which they have been taught is minimal and they are not qualified to blend on an individual basis

Remedial Massage

"Relief of muscle and joint pain, increased strength and mobility, increased metabolism."

Also for neck and shoulder pain from using the computer mouse.

The giving and receiving of nurturing touch is a fundamental human need. Massage is the oldest therapy when caring hands move and manipulate your soft tissues to relax tension and spasm in the muscles and return good circulation and nervous function to congested tissues; the benefits of massage are well documented and respected. Joint mobility is increased. Our expert therapists are able to listen to the prompts your body gives, to work with natural sensitivity in the places where the tension is actually held, and so create the right environment of looser muscles to allow release and relief.

The physiological benefits of massage; increase joint mobility, increase the circulation (helps immunity) and decrease muscle fatigue and soreness, relief for short and long term back pain, arthritis, frozen shoulder, knee pain, wrist pain, RSI, insomnia, increase energy due to more freely moving legs arms back neck shoulders and muscles generally. the oils nourish the skin of the face and the body, deep relaxation and stress reduction, relieves constipation and colic, increase the tone of both the skin and the muscles

What happens when I come for a massage?
The massage is conducted with the client lying on a treatment couch. Any areas of the body not being massaged are covered with warm towels to keep them warm as well as always protecting the client's modesty.
From the initial consultation and your medical history we are able understand your needs and inform you what can be achieved
Treatments are tailored to the individual needs of the client            A healthy body is a valuable asset

Massage can be one of the best ways of learning how to relax

  1. If you need help with aching muscles then remedial massage can work deeply into these muscles promoting their release and increasing metabolism and muscle tone, allowing your body to work more efficiently.

  2. Or it can be a gentle therapy, using special carrier oils and the sense of touch to soothe and relax the body creating a sense of balance.

The power of touch
Massage soothes the many nerves present in your skin helping us to relax and unwind.  The sense of touch is the first sense which we are aware of in the womb and has been shown to be of absolute importance to the new born baby during its first weeks of development and this importance continues into our adult life.  Towards the end of their lives many elderly people, for various reasons, have little opportunity to express or receive feelings of care by touching; especially those who reside in an institutional care environment (Barnet 1973).  Massage offers valid human contact to counteract tactile deprivation.

The massage
Combines this power of touch with gentle and firm yet effective movements of the muscles and soft tissues ~  by caring and confident hands ~ with luxurious warm towels and relaxing music ~
pure pleasure or an absolute relief ~  to make a real difference to your life. Specific painful muscles can be eased and encouraged to work properly again.  You have time and space to catch up with your life again                      ~ and  recuperate!

Remember
When we feel the effects of stress we
already probably have some inflammation in our bodies
which needs to be removed.
You can sort this out before
more damage results.
It makes sense!

Aromatherapy

Calm place of tranquillity away from work, anti-stress ~ relaxation,
blend of sweet smelling therapeutic oils~ tailored to you as an individual, good nights sleep ~ time for me ~ rebalancing.

Your body will feel at peace as you lie back in the aromatic atmosphere under your wonderfully warm towels with relaxing music. All elements of the body are addressed; physical, emotional and spiritual imbalances at the same time. Aromatherapy combines the benefits of massage with the therapeutic effects of a blend of sweet essential oils ~ chosen individually for you ~ and added to the carrier oil ~ take home your massage oil in a bottle to use at home where required. These wonderful oils have come from carefully chosen plants ~ they are produced in tiny droplets between the cells and contain hormones, vitamins, antibiotics and antiseptics ~ the essential oils have specific therapeutic properties. During and after an Aromatherapy treatment these essential oils are absorbed through the skin (unchanged by digestion).

The oils’ aromas have a subtle effect on the way we feel; they fine tune your body and leave you with a terrific sense of well-being about life, ourselves and the environment we live in. Our rooms are comfortable, warm and welcoming and our therapists non judgmental, confidential and professional.

Suggestions are available on exercise ~ home massage~ better posture~ breathing and relaxation techniques. We also stress the importance of positive thinking and taking responsibility for your own health.

"Can be one of the best ways of learning how to relax."

Kinesiology

"It's so good to know what foods suit me best"

Kinesiology is perhaps best known for testing food sensitivities but this is only a very small part of what it can help.

Kinesiology identifies any imbalances by checking the clients ability to hold their muscles against light pressure (muscle testing). Each muscle is related to an organ, and also an energy pathway or meridian which forms a "circuit". If there are chemical, emotional, structural or energetic stresses affecting the circuit the muscle tested will not be able to sustain pressure and will feel "spongy".

Once an imbalance is found the kinesiologist uses the muscle test again to find out from the persons body what exactly is causing the problem, and what will help to rebalance it; and devise a treatment plan.  This may include nutritional supplements, emotional stress release techniques (including flower remedies), rubbing acupressure points, gentle structural realignment, firm reflex massage, suggesting lifestyle and dietary changes and more.

How long a problem takes to resolve depends on several factors; whether the condition is acute or chronic, how long you’ve had it, whether or not you are good about taking your recommended supplements or cutting out certain foods, whether you are taking antibiotics or other medication.

As many, seemingly unrelated, pains and /or conditions are often connected to a few overriding imbalances, all manner of conditions can be corrected using Kinesiology.

If you have a back problem and regularly see a chiropractor this suggests that there is an underlying issue with your muscles or ligaments that goes beyond mere bone misalignment and which structural work alone is not addressing (otherwise you shouldn’t need repeated trips to the chiropractor).  There may be a nutritional deficiency that needs addressing in order to permanently strengthen the muscles or ligaments to hold the spine in the correct position.

Whether you want just a general check-up or a problem resolved, Kinesiology can be used.  It is a particularly good idea to have a treatment if there are congenital health imbalances running in your family such as heart disease, diabetes or asthma. This makes sure that you minimise your chances of developing these conditions yourself.

Life Coaching

What is important? What `would you change?"

A practical and down to earth approach to defining your goals, identifying strategies to achieve them and support to achieve what you want.  Life coaching is affirming, confidence building and very motivating.

“Have you ever wondered why exactly it is that so many of the plans, resolutions and goals that we make each year seem to drift past without being achieved?  What happens to those well meant thoughts to improve our health, wealth and happiness?

Why do we so often end up disappointed and disheartened eventually giving up on change     altogether? A core reason for this, is that our education does not include any exploration of  how our minds work or how to get the very best from them.  We have never been shown how to identify what really matters and then go ahead and achieve it.

We have never been shown the simple, and effective approaches to stop unwanted behaviours and replace them with new more successful patterns.

Why take a life coach?

People take a life coach to become the best they can be, to get life back on track, to set goals and work towards achieving them, to overcome difficulties in their lives and to deal with fears, phobias and negative emotions that are blocking their progress.

Why Will Thomas as my coach?

Will is highly qualified and experienced to support you to bring about change.  He is a qualified coach, an NLP Master Practitioner, certified in Timeline Therapy® at Master Practitioner level and the same for hypnosis.  He has extensive experience in work-place coaching, personal development coaching and breakthrough coaching.

What will you discover by taking coaching?

You will discover the real you.  You will uncover the truth about what you really want and unblock the pathways in yourself to achieving what you want to do, be and have in your life.  You will create a future of your choosing and learn many tools and approaches to getting what you seek in your life. You let go of old habits and beliefs and replace them with better ones.

How does it work?

Coaching works through the combination of self reflection, and specific approaches that your coach will teach you to set and reach goals and overcome internal blocks to your success.  Your coach will help you to decide what to do and how to go about it, in order for you to achieve. It is a real investment in your well-being and future success. Typically we work together for an initial consultation and then, depending on your needs, for 4-6 sessions.  Alternatively some people choose to book a breakthrough session and deal with  their issue in one day.

Who should take up a coach?

Anyone who wishes to improve themselves.  Coaching is for those who wish to forge a better future, resolve problems and explore further ways to be the best they can possibly be.  If you sense you have untapped potential and wish to access it, then coaching will help.

So what if you take on a life coach?

You’ll realise that you have so much  more potential than you  are using now. You will gain a greater depth of understanding about yourself and your interactions with others.  You’ll be able to get more of what you want in life, and less of  what you don’t want. You are likely to gain a renewed sense of purpose, direction and inner peace. You can let go of uncomfortable habits and achieve things you never thought possible.

Homeopathy

How does Homeopathy work?

Homeopaths treat disease using very low dose preparations administered according to the principle that "like should be cured with like." Practitioners use highly diluted substances that would, if given undiluted to a healthy volunteer, cause the symptoms which the patient is experiencing. For example, the homeopathic remedy Apis is derived from bee sting. If someone is stung by a bee, they might expect an area of pink or red, painful swelling to occur. Apis can be used to treat similar symptoms in patients, in conditions such as oedema, bites or spots.

The founder, Hahnemann, believed that the approach to being well should be addressed from a viewpoint of vitality (life and health of the whole individual) rather than the study of disease and the suppression of symptoms. This vitality is described as vital force and it keeps the body healthy unless it is disturbed in some way, for example by diet, injury, trauma, shock, toxicity, mental disturbance or emotional upset. Of course these kind of things happen to us all the time and different individuals respond in different ways. Some may not be affected but others may start to produce symptoms. An obvious example of this is that when we are tired, run down or stressed we are more likely to experience symptoms which we often call ‘a cold’.

Homeopathy works energetically to restore vitality so homeopaths look at the whole body and the balance within it, including the emotional aspects, rather than the specific part which is affected.

Bowen Technique

What is Bowen?

A Bowen Technique treatment affects the body in ways that promote healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. The experience of the treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing and it is these features that make the Bowen Technique so unique.

What problems benefit from Bowen?

  1. Anxiety & depression

  2. Back & neck pain

  3. Chronic fatigue

  4. Digestive disorders

  5. Eczema

  6. Frozen shoulder

  7. Hayfever

  8. Knee problems

  1. Kidney problems

  2. Migraines & headaches

  3. Repetative Strain Injury

  4. Respiratory conditions (eg Asthma)

  5. Sports injuries

  6. Stress management

  7. Tennis elbow

  8. Maintaining optimum health

What does the treatment involve?

A Bowen Technique treatment will take approximately 45 minutes and most of the work can be performed through light clothing. Two or three treatments, at weekly intervals, are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief from even long standing pain, although further treatments may sometimes be required. To receive maximum benefit it is recommended that other physical treatments (eg. massage, reflexology, physiotherapy, etc) are not mixed with the Bowen Technique within one week of a treatment.

How does it work?

Eileen uses her thumbs and fingers on precise points on the body to make rolling type moves which aim to disturb the muscles, soft tissue and energy within the body. During the treatment there are periods in which the client is left resting to allow the body to absorb the gentle moves that have been performed. This gives the body time to make the subtle and fine adjustments that help to relive tension, reduce pain and initiate the healing process.  The Bowen Technique encourages the body to realign itself; there is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue and no force is used or needed – it is not a form of massage.

The Bowen Technique also addresses many other conditions and is generally regarded as safe and effective for ALL AGES. Eileen has successfully treated clients from babies & young children to the very elderly.

Other professionals that use the Bowen Technique include osteopaths, chiropractors, sports therapists, nurses, midwives, hospice workers, and physiotherapists.

Healing and Crystal Therapy

Healing is the offering of universal energy with the specific aim of restoring a state of balance to the client on all levels, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. This is often enhanced by the use of crystals.

The key is that healing should always be given as an offering of unconditional love, with an approach of ‘thy will be done’.  It is not for the healer to determine what the client needs or desires. The healer may use their many skills to help the client to achieve their own state of balance within any given circumstance; this is not necessarily the same as ‘cure’. However, the side effects of this space of balance and healing may be cure from the illness or disease; alternatively there may be a new attitude within the individual on how to deal with their circumstance

Healing can be of great value in a variety of different situations; depression, stress and other conditions which have become all too familiar in modern society; it allows the client to regain their own sense of balance and harmony.  Releasing the innate healing abilities possessed by us all assists the client with the removal of blockages to their energetic system thus allowing this system to return to a more balanced state. The healer is able to help the client to achieve the changes they desire in their own way.  These changes can happen on every level of the clients system – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

The ancient art form using crystals is natural, gentle and non invasive and can enhance your natural inclination for optimum health.

The healer’s task is to use their skills to create the space for the individual to enable their own healing ~ rather like a physician who creates the space for mending a broken leg by applying a plaster cast to the leg, but it is actually the individual’s own leg that heals itself. By giving healing, the healer may be able to effect a change in the mental, or emotional state of the client which allows them to deal better with their disease process.

Dowsing for Health and Feng Shui

Many factors influence our health ;  some are personal, some are environmental, and some concern the stages of the year or the stages of our life.

Environmental aspects were a key concern in the 19th century, when the quality of our housing and of our sewers ~ if they existed ~ became an important social issue. Yet there are many other environmental issues.  The amount of electrical, magnetic and microwave radiation we absorb, for example.

Feng Shui, Dowsing, and related approaches can not only identify these influences, but also prove techniques which can be used to improve the situation.  Accentuate the Positive, and Eliminate the Negative, as Bing used to say.

In Malvern, where the hills run more or less North-South, environmental influences are plain to see.  You get the sun in the morning on the east side, and sun in the afternoon on the west side.  There many other influences, some of them quite subtle, which can affect well being.

Sometimes the influences are almost invisible, yet still have a strong effect.  Neighbours can be a blessing or a curse, but sometimes the influence of people who lived in a house before we moved in can give a house a particular flavour.

One of the therapists associated with the Centre for Well Being ~ Ced Jackson ~ is experienced in these matters, and you can read more about the work by clicking here.
